“We are proud to develop this large-scale project which combines innovative solutions with the ambition to speed up carbon neutrality. Hydrogen and eFuels will play an important role towards the decarbonization of hard-to-abate industrial sectors and the sustainability of large transportation companies.”

— Sébastien Arbola, EVP ENGIE Thermal Generation, Hydrogen and Energy Supply

THE OPPORTUNITY

ENGIE is a global, low-carbon energy and services company. With its 96,000 employees, clients, partners, and stakeholders, it strives every day to accelerate the transition towards a carbon-neutral economy through reduced energy consumption and more environmentally friendly solutions. ENGIE reconciles economic performance with a positive impact on people and the planet, building on its key businesses (gas, renewable energy, services) to offer competitive solutions to its clients.

As part of its mission to advance the sustainable energy economy and positively impact its local communities, institutions, and businesses, ENGIE began discussions with Infinium about developing low carbon hydrogen-based fuel development opportunities for use by the transportation sector.

THE SOLUTION

Infinium and ENGIE formed a strategic partnership to create one of the largest announced commercial scale eFuels facilities in Europe. The project, called Reuze, will harness Infinium’s technology to produce eFuels using CO2 from a steel plant in Dunkirk, France with green hydrogen produced by a 400-megawatt electrolyzer to be installed by ENGIE.

THE RESULTS

Reuze will convert more than 300,000 tons per year of CO₂ into more than 100,000 tons per year of clean-burning electrofuels. The project also brings beneficial economic growth to the Port of Dunkirk. Targeting commercial operations by 2026, Reuze is supporting ENGIE's ambitious strategy to deploy 4 GW green hydrogen production capacity by 2030.
